Mayor’s Statement on Rehabilitation of Historic Schools Act of 2011

Mayor Dwight C. Jones today praised the efforts of Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner to provide tax credits for communities to partner with private sector developers to rehabilitate older schools, through “The Rehabilitation of Historic Schools Act of 2011.”

“This is exactly the kind of assistance the City of Richmond needs, given our stock of older school buildings. Our old schools have great bones, and they could be made to last even longer, with the right financial incentives,” said Mayor Jones. “It would be great if we could get tomorrow’s technologies in yesterday’s historic and beautiful structures. I have long supported the concept of historic tax credits for school renovations. It is exactly what Richmond needs.”
